Why WordPress.com is the best blogging platform . period!

March 22nd, 2009 by admin

It’s not a secret that we are huge WordPress secrets for blogging, especially since we have been offerring SEO blog templates for WordPress for years.  If you are an expert you already know that WordPress has Meta tags and other built in amazing tools for SEO.  You know that WordPress.org offers the MU (Multi-User), and the blogging software for FREE.  Which always catapults the most feature rich blogging tool in to being #1.

So Why is WordPress.com the best blogging platform?  Because it helps you setup a blog on your own domain for custom hosting within minutes and only $15/year (yes that is a year), DID WE MENTION INCLUDING THE DOMAIN NAME REGISTRATION? YES, THAT IS TRUE.

Some of us are not technical, and so the fact that WordPress.com hosts our free blogs is great, but we really want to be professional and blogging on our own domain allows us all to do that.  So the fact that it is super easy is another best feature.  Folks, I tried and spent hours on TypePad the (self proclaimed professional blog), it stinks.  I was willing to pay the $149/year (thank god they did not charge my credit card), but it was too rigid, templates were not professional enough, and the SEO was weak.  I expected so much more, but I would have just settled for an easy interface, but they simply made things hard for me to navigate.  Also TYPEPAD fees are non-refundable, so DO NOT BUY or Pay full in advance they do not prorate your monthly payments.  After the 14 day trial, you are literally hosed, stuck with their weaker blogging system.

Blogger and Blogspot are easy and Ok, they also allow domain hosting, for free I think.  Blogger blogging platform, is owned by Google, so it’s not that bad, nothing Google does is bad.  It simply does not have the features and customization that WordPress.com blogging has.

Anyway, It’s taken me a few days to blog about this topic as I have been busy blogging about my wife’s book Mommy’s Little Money$Maker, an Inspiration Guide for Mom’s to start a business or earn a part time income.  Check it out at MomBite.com, she has been blogging their every day.  She plans to provide a daily MomBite, a featured business owned and started by a Mom that can help to inspire other Mom’s.  Enjoy and don’t be afraid to pass it on to other Mom’s.  Thanks!

Twitter beyond the Hype

March 16th, 2009 by admin

So blogging is big, we know that.  You have heard us say this hundreds of times, especially how Blogs are at the center of SEO, Search and Social marketing.  But, is Microblogging via Twitter hot too?  Yes, especially if you read the article below in CNBC, the main stream business media.  Twitter allows people, businesses, and anyone really to connect with their audience, unlike anything else.   Well, maybe Facebook, but because it’s instant, it’s really catching on.  So what is Twitter, you ask?  Microblogging, which essentially is short snippets you share about recent events, topics or news.  Because they are fresh, they are popular.  CNN commentators are using them, and you can share topics and everyone can comment on that topic.  I call it more like, Live Blogging rather than microblogging.

Go to check it out at Twitter.com, it’s easy, it’s easy, and you don’t have to be technical at all.  You just have to want to say something, and people will find you.   If you like watching people on faceBook, you will love Twitter.  See Full article @  http://www.cnbc.com/id/29719516  it’s brought to you via CNBC by Vault.com the Career site, who I think originated the content.

Some excerpts:

Execs: To Tweet, Or Not To Tweet?

Vault

O, be some other name! What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. So Twitter would, were it not Twitter call’d. (Sorry, Will.)

Twitter – are executives really expected to “do” something called tweeting? Use something called Twitter?

The simple answer is YES. In fact, it shouldn’t even be a question anymore. Americans – of all ages – have embraced “social networking” in its many contemporary forms: Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, the sharing services like Digg and Reddit, blogging, and yes, Twitter. A marketing campaign or constituent communications tool by any other name would smell as sweet, right?

That’s what my plugged-in lieutenants tell me. One of them sent me a list of advantages last week that ran on for three pages! And unlike Facebook, Twitter seems to have been adopted just as quickly by Gen X as by kids in college. And lots of companies – unable to penetrate Facebook – have been far more successful exploiting the promise and prowess of Twitter.

Tony Hsiah of Zappos tweets and so does Starbucks [SBUX  10.78    0.22  (+2.08%)   ] . And lots of media outlets are doing it as entities. (Can an entity be “social”?)

Big brands and companies have legitimate concerns about security, authenticity and the like. Many CEO’s are insulated and surrounded by legions of PR and Investor Relations troops – not to mention lawyers. I think the term “social networking” often gets in the way. Social and commercial don’t seem to go together. But I think it’s the networking that holds the power. All these so-called 2.0 web services are anchored by the same core principles: personalization; the importance of “influencers” (friend, favorite, followed, follower); instant, viral transmission of ideas and images; transparency and authenticity.

Are Blogs Advertisements?

March 9th, 2009 by admin

The simple answer is no, but they can be.  And there is a fine line that people are crossing, and Google has punished them for it.  The whole concept is one of pay per post or blogs that are written to endorse products or services.  Especially if they are not publicly disclosed, and a no-follow link has been placed.  The concept is regulated pretty heavily by Google, and violators are punished by loosing their organic rankings.  I think this holds true for both bloggers and advertisers.  So disclose publicly if you have any advertisers or endorsements.  For example, we don’t have any advertisers or endorsers, but we promote our own Marketing book and heaters on a different site.  And are always blogging about those relevant topics.  So I think we are OK.  A lot of this depends on how strick and far Google wants to take it.   This is another reason, why we should have a democratic search system, and why I am starting to support Live.com and It’s new name of Kumo.com, if that is it’s new name.

The issue of No Follow Link and Blogging and Advertising gray line got highlighted last week when Forrester published a report on blogging and marketing.  See attached blog post to dwell in to the issue in detail:   http://blogs.forrester.com/marketing/2009/03/sponsored-con-1.html

Blogs more influential then Social networks

December 3rd, 2008 by admin

Please visit Marketing Charts to see full article, since we are a blogging site, I am super excited to place the full article.  At the same time, we believe blogging and Social Networking are tied at the hip.  click Here: Enjoy!

Blogs Influence Consumer Purchases More than Social Networks

The number of those who read blogs at least once a month has grown 300% in the past four years, and what they read strongly influences their purchase decisions, playing a key role in ushering them to the point of actual purchase, according to a BuzzLogic-sponsored study, reports Retailer Daily.jupiter-buzzlogic-half-online-population-reads-blogs-october-2008.jpg

“Harnessing the Power of Blogs,” a research study of more than 2,000 online consumers in the US, was conducted by JupiterResearch, a Forrester research company.

The study aimed to uncover changing behavior around blog discovery and consumption, how blogs factor into consumer purchase decisions, and the nature of blog influence on buying behavior.

For example, frequent blog readers (those who read blogs more than once per month) – constituting 20% of blog readers – say they trust relevant blog content for purchase decisions more than content from social networking sites, the study found.

jupiter-buzzlogic-blog-readers-trust-content-purchase-decisions-october-2008.jpg

Below are additional findings released by BuzzLogic.

Buying Behavior: The Nature of Blog Influence

  • Blogs influence purchases: One half (50%) of blog readers say they find blogs useful for purchase information.
  • Blogs go beyond tech: Outside of technology-related purchases, for which 31% of readers say blogs are useful, other key categories include media and entertainment (15%); games/toys and/or sporting goods (14%); travel (12%); automotive (11%); and health (10%).

  • Niche focus ups influence factor: For those who have found blog content useful for product decisions, more than half (56%) say blogs with a niche focus and topical expertise were key sources.

Blogs’ Place in the Purchase Cycle

Blogs factor in to critical stages of the purchase process, weighing most heavily at the actual moment of a purchase decision, according to the study: Among respondents who say they have trusted blog content for purchase decisions in the past, over half (52%) say blogs played a role in the critical moment they decided to move forward with a purchase.

Blog readers’ responses regarding blogs’ influence as it relates to the following steps of the purchase process:

  • Decide on a product or service: 21%
  • Refine choices: 19%
  • Get support and answers: 19%
  • Discover products and services: 17%
  • Assure: 14%
  • Inspire a purchase: 13%
  • Execute a purchase: 7%

Blog Ads and Reader Trust

For frequent blog readers, ads on blogs are on par with sponsored search results, one of the most prevalent and successful forms of advertising on the web – and trust of blog advertising exceeds that around social networking site advertising.

Fully 25% of frequent readers say they trust ads on a blog they read; paid search links also account for 25% of their responses; and 19% say they trust ads on social networking sites.

The study also suggests ads on blogs spur various activities:

  • 40% of blog readers have taken action as a result of viewing an ad on a blog; 50% of frequent blog readers say so.
  • Top activities include the following: read product reviews online (17%); sought out more info on a product or service (16%); visited a manufacturer or retailer website (16%).

Changing Reader Patterns: The Power of Links

Frequent blog readers use blogs as the top online navigation tool to discover other blog content, ranking higher than general web search or blog search, the study also found:

  • 38% of frequent readers said blog links were the top tool for discovering new blog content.
  • 34% cited web search, and 11% said blog search engines were the top tool for discovering new blog content.
  • For frequent readers, blog links appear to have similar impact as a trusted recommendation from a person (a response from 39% of survey participants).

One in five general blog readers (defined as consumers who have read a blog in the past 12 months) use blog links to discover new blogs.

Blog search engines received the lowest ranking from respondents: 6% of general readers say they use these tools to discover new blogs.

Blogs are not consumed in isolation, but experienced as part of a connected conversation: Nearly half (49%) of blog readers and 71% of frequent readers read more than one blog per session.

“For a portion of web users, blogs rival search as a navigation tool, which has really interesting implications for advertisers,” said Rob Crumpler, CEO of BuzzLogic. “Blogs are becoming trusted guides, steering users who are seeking very specific information to places of interest online. Being able to identify where this is taking place across the blogosphere gives us a window into user intent and a means to better target advertising to a qualified audience. This is great news for advertisers looking to maximize value in today’s environment.”

About the study: In August 2008, JupiterResearch designed and fielded a survey to online consumers selected randomly from the NPD Group US online consumer panel. A total of 2,210 persons responded to the survey. Respondents were asked approximately 40 closed-ended questions about their behaviors, attitudes, and preferences as they relate to media and entertainment, including 10 questions relating to blogs. The samples were balanced by a series of demographic and behavioral characteristics to ensure that they were representative of the online population. Demographic weighting variables included age, gender, household income, household education, household type, region, market size, race, Hispanic ethnicity, online tenure, connection speed, and student status.

Video SEO and Simpsons make fun of Apple

December 2nd, 2008 by admin

Since, I wrote this blog originally on a iPhone, and copying it to the PC from my blogging account, I find the mapple Simpsons video below to be very funny.  Anyone being honest and making fun of Apple is a good thing, everyone needs a shot at it.  Here the is the post first, then video.

Video SEO Tip – Using SWFObject 2.1 to Provide Alternative HTML Content (Part 1 of 2)

http://www.reelseo.com/swfobject-video-seoFollow the link above to a great article on SEO and Video. If the
link does not work, I am sorry. I am having issues typing on my new
iPhone. No matter how unBlackberry it is, it’s still very cool. I
know my Seo and blogging speed will be hurt by it. But that is the
price of a great all in one device.

As some of you have noticed I have not been blogging that much any
way. I have been thinking about working on and finishing the book
Blog Impact!, it’s our new ttile for the marketing book, but with a
focus on blogging and social networking than on raw SEO, Search and
Social marketing.

We added a lot of articles on blogging, and how to blog. A lot of
these I did not write. But onne our previous contractors had. And, I
can’t wait to pay her some of the proceeds, to get her caught up on
payments. If I have learned some thing in these tough times, it’s you
always pay people, even if it is late.

Business and Entrepreneurship requires Sacrifice and perseverance, so don’t ever never quit.
And, one shall never give up on their goals, but make small strides if need be, instead of fast. Some times it takes a bit longer, but you will get there.  And remember, we don’t get paid for our blogging, this free blogs site actually makes some money (but not enough to pay our hosting), through our marketing book.  Also our sister site GreenIsBetter.org actually sells Infrared Heaters to keep this business alive and move forward, so check those great heaters out and save energy this winter.

Blogcast your Brand: SEO blogs + Internet Marketing 2.0

November 26th, 2007 by admin

B is for Brand, not just blogging, and it’s more important to build a brand than to just SEO. We want to help you be successful, and that is why our tagline is Blogcast your brand! Beautiful Brands from SXC.hu-photo-blogBranding is everything in marketing, that is everything of everything, after you have developed a great product. So what is a Brand, and why should you care? If you build your brand the right way, you won’t just SEO for subject matter keywords such as Jewelry, but people will SEO for your brand name, such as for “Blue Nile” for jewelry. How do you develop such a powerful brand name, especially on the Internet?

People will actually SEO for your brand name, as consumers will be searching for your name, to buy your product or service. And, your competitors will SEO for your brand name, no matter how much they try, you will always be #1 on Google for your brand! Right? Being searched for as a keyword that is your “brand name” is when you have really hit it big, and you than will be the target keyword for your category, and that my friend is the success of a brand and you will have arrived. We will show you not only to SEO blogs here, but to be unique, and to always use and reinforce your Brand name.

Back to, What is a brand and brand building? I am not going to give you a text book definition, because I am not going to refresh my memory with a text book. but tell you everything I have learned and simplify the knowledge of over 15 years. The 15 years come from real life Sr. level marketing positions with top companies and successful technology companies. Isnt’ that what you want, real world, real life experience, instead of text book answers? After receiving my business degree is in Management Information Systems, where one of my favorite subject was marketing, I started a food company, and had billionaires over for dinner at the age of 25 to buy my company. To this day that is still one of my top 10 achievements. I love the Schwan’s family, but The Schwan’s food company, sent me an offer I had to refuse, so I did, back on that lesson later. Be patient lad, there is a tie in to at the end of the book to the Schwan’s story of turning lemons in to lemonade.

My love and passion for marketing has never left me, I still love advertisements that make me laugh, brands that stand out and make you think, product branding that is genius. Marketing and product marketing are such an amazing and creative field, but require a lot of skill and market research, which I learned at Gartner and working with top Gartner clients such as Microsoft. Strategic Marketing and strategic positioning is not usually thought of as marketing, people usually talk about brand marketing or marketing promotions and advertisements, as marketing. Hence they miss the boat on it completely because they don’t understand the big picture. I say if you build a brand the right way from the strategy level, than brand building and SEO are easy. It’s not just about getting ranked at the top of the search engines, but to actually sell products and make money. Let’s never forget that brand building and SEO should aways be about increasing sales.

A lof of my friends in college and after were in the AMA, American Marketing Association, my passion and association never left me. I read Adweek and other marketing + business magazines for years as a hobby, and still love to look at brands with an Awe of success and wonder. My experiences have lead to me to create a few amazing and fun brand names that even Sr. VP’s at companies like Microsoft chuckle at. It’s all in a name as I say, thanks to Larry C, who’s nanny helped me develop UrbanTango.com, a real estate portal in 2003.  That brand is still admired in the Seattle real estate world.

I consider my self a Internet Marketing expert, a position which others may not argue with given my background and results in todays internet marketing strategies. Way back in 1999, I co-founded an Internet Company, Enthusiasm.com which turned in to Enthusiasm Technologies, that sold to a public company for $8.6Million, Metro One Telecom. Soon there after I founded another company that achieved $1million in revenues in it’s first 11months and $3.2m in it’s second year, Netisen Group, Inc. at Netisen.com. Portrait of Vessey from sxc.hu-photo-blog

We ended up doing business at Netisen with Microsoft, Safeco, Nordstrom, Premera Blue Cross, Amgen, and Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center. Now if you live in Seattle you certainly know about all of these brands. While working with all those brands added credibility to Netisen, it still ended up being sold for pennies on the dollar and us loosing millions. I bring this up as building a great brand can generate millions, but if business not taken care of properly, can destroy a brand.  Debacles of bad suppliers from China are starting to impact the Toy brands of today, and some very powerful toy brands are at risk.  A whole country China is getting a bad brand due to some bad suppliers.  Some might say unreasonably at the fault of the US brand or not enough quality control or regulations at both sides, I say, yes.   Remember the issues with Tylenol, and how criminals almost destroyed that great brand.  So experiences such as Enron’s have been around, that show us, that a great brand be lost in a matter of months.

So go slowly and be very strategic when SEOing or brand building, and be cautious of your business partners, great brands are developed over years not in a short time.  We can all go through a tough period, and your brand will survive if it stands for solid values of ethics, compassion, honesty and respect. Respect is earned not only by doing things right, but also by managing the things that have gone wrong, so brand building and credibility go hand in hand. This is what Internet Marketing 2.0, search engines have unraveled at an accelerating rate.

Getting ranked and high rankings in search engines such as Google can get your brand Quick Credibility with the consumer. Especially as their are millions of web pages out there, and if you are among the top 10, why you are a leader, aren’t you! Organic SEO and search results actually give you and your Brand more credibility and Equity to your brand than Pay Per Click ads can. Consumers don’t like being sold to, do they, they prefer to buy, but you already knew that! I am very proud of our #1 search result in “Create a blog”, and many top rankings. Our brand MyTypes.com was recognized by a friend of a friend recently. As I spoke with this in house SEO expert of a large media company Real Networks, she has an MBA from a major west coast school, so she is very smart, and said she had seen our site at the top of the search engines so she thought highly of it. Wow, but that should not be a shock to you folks, Google and other search engines can make your brand a International phenomenon in a matter of days. The key is not just to SEO, but to build your brand with this strategy in mind.

Back to us, we are #1 for “WordPress SEO” which is why you are here. #9 on Google for “Free Blog“, #11 for “Blogging“, and the #37 for “SEO“. Wowsa, that high for SEO and we weren’t even targeting it, boy we are good. I am saying these things about results and above paragraph about my/our past success, to not brag or be self promotional, but only to add credibility for all those doubters with MBA’s or not.  I am sure some very smart people, will question my credibility, as they will yours or anyone who achieves success, especially in the public eye. In this world of rational reasoning, it’s not just what you know, what school you went to, but what have you done.  To me the best thing about being an American, is that we tend to judge people by their actions, not just their degrees, caste system, last name or wealth status of lordship.  In India, and other parts of the world, I am afraid it’s not the case.

At the end of the day, I will judge my success on how many people I can help with my skills rather than how many keywords I can get ranked on Google, or how many brands I can think of/or develop.  There is a good list of below, and yes I do own over 70+ great URL’s.  This article is not just about SEO, but rather on the topic of Branding, brand building, brand strategy, and most importantly about blogcasting/promoting your brand for eSuccess! This article may become a series, but for now we will stick with the following questions, gosh it’s so long already, ouch:-(.

1. What is a Brand? It’s the name of a product or company that captures it’s essence to the audience. Some common and newer example: Coke: a soft drink, but the bottle of coke; IBM, the personal computer, everything business computers, big blue, big branding, big shoes to fill:-)Branding-b-photo-blog-from-sxc.hu

2. What is the most important aspect of building a brand? That it be remembered, as well as capture the essence of it’s products value. Google, is as you can see, remembered. MySpace is remembered, Aveda: a health and beauty brand is remembered as it captures the plant essences. Remember that a brand my get old and tired such as Yahoo, but it’s the fault of it’s management. eBay is not tired, Microsoft is not tired?

3. How do we build a brand? Make it unique, smart-unique words, simple logos, hello Nike swoosh. Use colors or be black and white in today world of color, like Crate and Barrel. Music, any thing to set it up as a product or companies Unique Selling Proposition, can you think of the music or tune of the Vonage commercials? How about the annoying factor of the HeadOn, HeadOn, HeadOn. Make it an emotional grabber, and use it every where, every where, in all of your marketing materials, packaging, website, brochures, keep the colors and words consistent. And than keep it consistent by hammering it over and over again, liven in up every year or so, but not too often, keep it consistent. The main rule of branding, the more different the more it will stand out. In a world of blue, be pink or Orange, well Pink is the new black, as you already know.

4. How do we start building a brand? Ask your self these questions, what, where, how, when, and Why?

What does my product stand for? What do I want my customers to think of the solution? Is it a soft drink that quenches their thirst, or is it “oh what a feeling? What is association of the name and the product? When I was first thinking of a name for my first company, a frozen indian food co., my friend and associate William Mason, thank William for that great lesson. I had not idea, that his insights would get in my book some day:-). He asked me some very interesting questions, I can remember my first brand building conversation back in 1992 vividly.

Photo-blog-shoppingforspices-sxc.hu

In a matter of minutes we came up with the name, sitting right outside at a cafe in Minneapolis warehouse district, those were the days before the Target center, Prince, the musician without a name, still had his night club right around the corner. And there we were, at that same exact point, I figured out the art of Branding. Oh by the way, it ended up being called: “Masala, Cuisine of India”. Masala is the name for mixture of spiced used in Indian cooking, it is at the heart of every home, restaurant, everything Indian food. So having a name like Masala is the key, you have to capture the essence of the core of your category, your culture, your industry.

The word “Cuisine” means gourmet, so we added that as a positioning statement, we wanted the Indian food to have a sophisticated place in the palate, rather than peasant food. We knew that Indian food tends to be popular with the educated and cultural type of people who appreciate it’s complex tastes and smells. Not just some visually non-appealing poop style curry, yukh.

The average hamburger eating crowd does not define a connoisseurs of fine gourmet foods. At the same time, the word Gourmet may be too high-end for the average person. Last word “India” was important to say what it was, it is from the ancient land of Yoga and Taj Mahal, but isn’t it easier to just say India? But we could have said Curries, or Taj Mahal, Rubi’s, Turbons, Sacred cow’s etc. etc. Words have a lot to do with branding, and you MUST define your product or brand explicitly with your customers in mind. That is why the blog post on the 5P’s of marketing is so important to visit, well all the blogs and topics in the book are important. So to summarize, we asked and got to the Core of Indian food to come up with a name for product and company. Some times people want the company to be named different than the product, we disagree. Indian-food-photo-blogfromsxc.hut

We believe you should pick a name, a catchy name, a small name, an emotional brand that defines your product that you LOVE, and keep it simple and use that word for everything. Large companies pay thousands to millions of dollars for brand creation and brand positioning. You are a small business person, an entrepreneur or even a large business executive, regardless of who you are if you want to develop a brand from inception to reinforcing, you have to pick a few words to define what you do and hammer that brand name home. So pick a catchy name like “Purple Cow” by Seth Godin. Being different is not enough, capturing an essence is vital to you success. Here are some brand names that I have been associated with and or/have created.

Masala: Cuisine of India

MNDine.com: a Minnesota Restaurant online directory

Gartner: A global IT leader, any IT exec knows this brand

Microsoft: A software company, ask Bill Gates what they do, they are a software company. I helped managed the relationship between Gartner and Microsoft and I love some of the branding that they have created.

UrbanTango.com: A real estate website for Seattle Real Estate that I created and got to the top 10 search result on Yahoo, MSN, Google

XoomPad.com: A real estate IDX(Home Listings) search website

MyTypes.com: A community of bloggers to create and promote their blogs, what do you do with your blog, Type one right?

OrangePillow.com: A hosting company website, get it a Pillow a host?

Why did I bring up the not so well known brands that we own? They are not big names, nor does your brand have to super well known by everyone, just with your customers. And remember make them-catchy names, and being catchy is what we are after, well Brands that last, Brands that have equity, and Brands that make us money. I love to see brands at work, and so should your work, not you? A great brand usually means more jobs and more success for not just the company but also the community at large. We will address the other questions of When, where, How and Why in the next few questions.

SEO blogs 101: just keep blogging and blogCast

November 16th, 2007 by admin

I started out blogging to write the SEO blog of today on managing your emotions and not worrying about your rankings. But, I can’t help but keep my enthusiasm on a good day, as we at MyTypes.com got ranked #10 today for the keyword “Blogging” on Google. This was a good day for that, but we were as high as #6 a few weeks ago, than suddenly we got dropped to #23 or so.

Jump of Joy SXC.hu.photo-blogs

I am not jumping up and down with joy, don’t misunderstand my excitement, #10 is a very good ranking and the keyword blogging is a very powerful keyword under the blogging terms. But, I am not too excited as I was not terribly disappointed a few weeks ago. I kept my cool than, and I will keep my cool now.

I guess you learn to manage your emotions the older you get. I have had so many ups an downs in life, I am trying to take them all in stride. Reading a great book on Buddhist Zen stuff is helping, but I have known for a while that I would have to manage my emotions, If I am going to make a living as a SEO blog expert. I learned my biggest lessons as I lost my top 10 rankings in Google for “Seattle Real Estate” keywords back in 2005. We were ranked in the top 10 for our website UrbanTango.com.

So my advice to you is to keep blogging with the right keywords such as SEO blog for this one, and blogging coach being for the whole MyTypes.com. Oh by the way, on a very serious note, and I dare you to find 5 better places to SEO your blogs. We are #1 on Google for WordPress SEO, we are #1 for “Create a blog”, we are #11 now for “Free Blog” and top 25 or less for many blog related keywords. How did we get there if 6 months? By being very smart, we did a bunch of things right, but most importantly we created this SEO blog templates, and just kept on Blogging. So don’t worry if you fall of this week or next, the key is to stay current on your knowledge of what is happening in the world of SEO.

How to Promote your blog? Don’t just SEO your blogs but be active and promote your blog on Wiki’s such as Zimbio, I love that site by the way. Create a Wiki for your proper keywords and let them import your blogs. Or create a blog on this site, maybe you did not notice that we have an Automatic Blog Feed agregator on our community blogs section @ Community.MyTypes.com. As mentioned in the last post, please, please, please, setup a blog on eBay. Write your blogs here, link them contextually to your site, and than CUT and PASTE them there. This process will take your blogs from this system, add your links in to this content, which you can’t do in the eBay blogs. They don’t have good blogging edit tools.

Blog versus a website, who wins?

September 27th, 2007 by admin

This is a great debate that started for me well before we started MyTypes.com blogging platform. If you don’t have a business, do you still need a website? Does a website address have to make it a website there? What is a website, and how is that different than a blog? Is a blog just a journal or can a blog website actually replace your website?

My answer is simple, yes, yes, and yes. Comstock.com Image Royalty Free?

A blog is no longer just a journal, and a blog website is what you want. We recommend that you get a WordPress blog website on any URL that you choose. Well, and if you don’t need to waste your money on a URL, for non business reasons, don’t waste it. Get the blog website on MyTypes.com/”your name here” or on “yourname”.wordpress.com or “yourname”.blogspot.com. Why am I recommending our competitors here? Because they are the best, options and we are really here trying to help you.

So every website in the future should have a blogging system built in it, or every blog should have all the features a website should have. Every website should have the ability to build community and make the content easy to upload and add. Every business website, needs to do that. And, every business blog and blogging platform should be customizable to your brand.

Most importantly, every blog and website should be able to promote your content to your audience. And the content either business or not, for a non-profit cause, should be search engine optimized (SEO). Tomorrow’s topic will be Design, the most important aspect of your blog or website, where beauty meets ease of use.

**I am coming back to edit and re-read this post as I do this time to time with our blogs.  I wanted to add for people’s perspectives, that blogs will continue to be better for promoting your business as they will rank higher in the search engines.  This shift 7 months after the original post of this blog, I think blogs are starting to replace people’s websites, especially the wordpress blogging platform.  Also now that we are providing SEO services to our clients such as CRM and CRM Software, silver jewelry, and generally doing more SEO, we believe that all businesses should have blogs.

The Importance of Setting Goals

August 14th, 2007 by Blogging Coach

If you’re blogging to promote your business and your brand, it’s essential to have a clearly defined plan. Yes, this seems like common sense, but you’d be surprised at how many bloggers just jump into the blogosphere without doing a little bit of research, reading the work of other successful bloggers, and establishing some kind of blogging plan.

Yes, in blogging as in business it’s important to have a plan, even if it is just a loose outline.   Some aspects that a blogging plan should include is a posting schedule, an organized set of categories and keywords, and a series of goals that the blogger intends to achieve (of course, you can always add keywords and categories later, or switch up your schedule, but really, most people operate better under some kind of set parameters and a good plan will help you start off on the right foot).

Setting goals, even small ones like “gain ten new high quality incoming links this week” or “move up five spots in the search engine results pages (SERPs) for your top keyword” is a good way to propel yourself through the ranks of the blogging community.  Reaching these goals is also an excellent morale booster, especially when you look back at what you’ve accomplished on days you’re feeling discouraged.  It’s important to remember that every blogger starts with just one opening post, even the Technorati Top 100.

You could also set writing goals, such as “post three times a week for the next month” or plan to a finish a longer piece such as a tutorial or glossary (your flagship content) by a certain deadline.  Creating a certain number of informative podcasts and video posts is another potential goal.

Of course, you need to have the big picture in mind as well.  What do you hope to accomplish with your blog?  Do you want to be in the top five search results for your main keywords?  Want to establish yourself as an authority and get consulting gigs as a result of your expertise?  Want to use your blog to generate internet buzz about your company and products?  Writing these things down and having an end result in mind will ensure that your blogging efforts are more focused and accompanied by a sense of purpose.

The type of goals you set should depend on your niche, your expectations for your blog, how much time you have to work on it, and most importantly, the sort of blogger you are.  However, it is extremely helpful and even necessary to create a plan or outline, including a series of goals – and don’t forget to reward yourself with some kind of treat when you reach them!

How To Beat Blogger’s Block #5: Folksonomy Is Your Friend

August 13th, 2007 by Blogging Coach

Many people have realized the value and potential benefits of blogging, but they struggle when it’s time to actually write their posts and create their content. After all, it’s tough to maintain a blog and post interesting things day in and day out. However, the web is full of ideas and ways to set your creative capabilities on fire.

One way to generate new ideas and give life to old ones is use the social bookmarking and tagging sites to find new perspectives in your niche.  Digg, del.icio.us, stumble upon, flickr, youtube, and other sites all have tons of user-submitted content, organized by tags.  This system is referred to as a “folksonomy” – the practice and method of collective collaboration using freely chosen keywords known as “tags”.  Users tag content with descriptive phrases and terms in order to share it more effectively with people who are interested in the same topics.

It’s important to see what others in your niche are talking about, and one way to find this out is to see what’s been tagged with your keywords on the various social media sites.  You may be wondering, however, does this translate into posts on your blog? Here are five things you can do with knowledge gleaned from the social media.

1.  Write a response to another blogger. Did you disagree with what they said?  Want to add to their thoughts and bring a new point of view into the conversation?  Use your blog to share your insights, and be sure to link to the inspiring post so the original blogger is aware of you (one caveat – keep your criticism constructive and respective – flame wars have no place on a business blog).

2.  Create a round-up of interesting links.  Did you discover all sorts of all cool sites and articles?  Chances are your readers might be interested in them too, so why not post them on your blog? Don’t forget to write a sentence or two about each link so they know what they are clicking on.

3.Compliment another blogger.  Come across another blogger or website that is simply amazing?  Write a post about why they are so incredible and if it applies, use them as an example of a blogging success.   Maybe even interview them and tell your readers their story.

4.Share what you’ve learned.  Find an informative article or how-to that you really learned something from?  Elaborate on that for your audience.  Bonus points if you can post pictures or your own experience of following the original article’s advice.

5.  Post a funny, creative, or intriguing video.  When you’re simply at a loss for blogging words, youtube, vimeo, and other video sites can be your saviors.   After all, if a picture’s worth a thousand words, a video has got to be worth at least a million.

What do you do when you suffer from blogger’s block?
