connection between SEO & Social Networking

January 20th, 2009 by admin

I have been writing about this for almost 2 years, but the connections are now stronger then ever.  There are numerous articles written every day about SEO and Social Networking, and the popularity of faceBook only makes this more powerful.  You need to learn about the impact of Social networking on SEO, read this great article on the recent SEO related topics.

The Better You Rank…the Better You Rank!

For the most part, the basics of sound SEO remain the same today and they have for years. You need:

These were right in 2000 and they’re still right in 2009.

Popularity = Rank

One thing that we’ve noticed within this past year is the notion that the more popular your Web site is (the more visitors that you have, the more pages those visitors click through, and the longer the visitors stay on your site), the better the likelihood that your Web site will rank. This isn’t an altogether “new” notion (Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld discussed this in 2003), but I’ve seen more evidence of this within this past year.

The search engines want to provide searchers with the best results possible. How they define “best results” may be up for debate, but they do a pretty good job.

Years ago, you might have to click through 20 pages of search results to find what you were looking for. Nowadays, through better algorithms and personalized search, few will bother to click through to page two of their results. Instead, they’ll probably search again using a different keyword phrase.

Chiclets for Advertising?

January 19th, 2009 by admin

I didn’t know what Chiclets are until just now.  I am falling behind in my forefront, well maybe not.  And, I have let 13 days go by without blogging, ouch that hurts.   Well, you could say I am too busy at my real job working in the real Internet advertising/marketing business.  Now we know why people don’t blog all the time, they are busy:-).  Enjoy this great aticle on  Chiclets:

Socializing Your Banners With Chiclets (click here to see full article)

Sponsored by Searchandise

We all know the lines between social media and online media are blurring. One noticeable way social media marketing is creeping into traditional online display is by incorporating sharing, bookmarking, and syndication chiclets into banners.

Do you know what chiclets are? They are those little Digg, Facebook, Delicious, and Twitter buttons you see nestled around blog posts and articles or consolidated in aggregators like ShareThis.

The definition according to Word Spy is “a small image that links to a syndication file for a web site, particularly a blog.”

Here are a few:

chiclet list

So what do chiclets do? Basically, they enable users to quickly bookmark or share Web content by automatically posting articles, photos, video, and content to your bookmark page or profile. The cool thing is that besides using them in blogs or content sites, you can actually put them in banners so people can incorporate your advertising into their social environment!

I’ll show you how it works with a SnaggableAd rich media banner from Clearspring. You can see this stuff in action for yourself here.

Here’s how it works: a banner like the one below for the movie runs all over the Web (served via PointRoll or another supporting platform). The user interacts with the banner, watches the videos, and decides to share the ad with friends. So he clicks on the “share” button and all the sharing chiclets appear.

Watching cable on your iPhone?

January 6th, 2009 by admin

I was going to write about my marketing book today, how a retired Exec from Microsoft loved our book title, “Marketing is a CONTACT sport”.  So much for writing about boring Internet marketing, blogging, power of free blogs etc.  I would rather write about sports marketing and now iPhone is going video how cool is that.  Now I will be able to watch video on my iPhone and especially my favorite sports, thank God, I am so grateful for the Gods bestowing sports and live videos on our phones where ever we are.  Is watching cable or TV on your iPhone really that cool, you betcha!

It may not sound cool as you think, but if your kids hog the television as mine do, it will definitly be a worthwhile app.  The iPhone has added a lot of quality videos and music back in to my life.  I was a lucky recipient of one as a gift before Thanks Giving!  So when I read the article on TechCrunch about SlingMedia offerring this app, I immediately got excited.  I have been thinking about the iPhone as a video phone and as a video device already.  It’s not a rocket science leap is it?

Here is the article from TechCrunch:

Coming Soon From Sling Media: Watch Cable TV From Your iPhone
by Jason Kincaid on January 5, 2009

Sling Media, the company behind the popular (and very cool) settop boxes that allow you to stream cable from your house to your computer, looks like it has outdone itself. At this week’s Macworld the company will be showing off its upcoming iPhone application, which effectively gives iPhone owners instant access to their Cable TVs and Tivos from anywhere they have a network connection. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a little longer (the company says that the app will be submitted to Apple some time in Q1), but it looks like it will be well worth the wait.
