Live Blogging @ Twitter versus faceBook

October 29th, 2008 by admin

So I finallly signed up for a live blogging account at Twitter.   If our marketing book was going to talk about all the major Social networking tools, Twitter had to be mentioned, even though I am not a huge fan yet.  But, Twitter has created some interesting buzz in the recent months.  I actually wanted to signup about a year ago, but did not.  I saw no value in Live Blogging, especially as faceBook covers the keeping your friends up to date view the wall “What are you doing right now?” feature.

But besides the cool logo and some great media press, what does Twitter have?  Well the best feature I had was join the live blogging conversation on Politics?  Why can’t they provide that on all topics besides politics?  Or maybe I just don’t know how to use Twitter or Live Blogging?  Maybe, I can be more clear?  blogs.ebay.com has a live blogging feature, where people can post anything and it gets published, but we need live blogging on certain topics and the most recent topics/posts get lifted to the top.  I think bloggers want to promote their blogs and see who else is writing what and that is some thing of real value to folks.  That to me is needed in the market, a live blogging by topics or discussions, with the pictures and live discussions.  Does that make sense to you all?  We have experimented with this feature on Community.MyTypes.com check it out, but we need something more live like Twitter but on topics and inviting your friends in to a discussion.

The big problem is that faceBook has already covered that niche for person to person like Twitter?  What do you think, do we need one for hot topics not just Twitter or faceBook versions?  What else should our Marketing Book talk about regards to Twitter, any opinions?

Social Media - Social Networking goes mainstream?

October 28th, 2008 by admin

Yes, research proves it now.  My answer to that question is a silly rehetorical question; we needed research to prove the fact that faceBook and MySpace are mentioned everywhere in the media?  But, for those statistics supporters, now the marketing budgets can follow in to social networking and social media.  I was recently talking to someone at a top 5 Internet company and that company’s senior marketing directors discounted social networking back in 2004 saying that it was niche trend.  Not to mention they chose communication platforms such as Skype, too bad for that very large company.  Their product plans missed the whole boat, and to make matters worse they now struggling to attract advertising dollars.  Why do we respect very conservative middle managers?  Is it because they bring up good road blocks for possible failure or they simply don’t do anything positive to grow their businesses?  Too bad for bad middle managers, that guy is luck to have his job.  If I was his manager, I would have fired him for not recognizing the trend of social networking and social media.  But ofcourse my marketing book could not have even helped this guy, the book came out too late.

Here is the excerpt of the article and Forrester recent report on the subject:

Forrester: Social Web Now Mainstream

Oct 24, 2008

-By Brian Morrissey

NEW YORK U.S. consumers are flocking to use social networks and other participatory venues to the extent that the activity is now mainstream, according to Forrester Research.

The company’s polling indicates 2008 has marked significant growth for social media, with a decided majority of users now taking part. A consumer poll done in the second quarter found that 75 percent of Internet users participate in some form of social media, up from 56 percent in 2007.

Why AdCenter.Microsoft.com deserves another look…

October 27th, 2008 by admin

Last week I suggested that adCenter.Microsoft.com was better then Google for targeting certain very expensive keywords such as Heaters, and we tested it for our Infrared Heater site, GreenIsBetter.org.  What I did not realize was the AdCenter and Microsoft Live Search are really pushing hard with some great new features.  Two of them caught my attention lately, but the new AdCenter 5.0 has many more, so do check them out at your leisure.  And as you already know most smart SEO and SEM experts already advertise on adCenter.Microsoft.com because it tends to be a lot cheaper then Google on almost all keywords.

So here are the two features that I found very helpful:

1.  AdCenter allows you to target not just locally for your ads, but it also allows for Demographic Targeting such as Age and Sex of the viewer of Ads.  For example, you can target W (Women), and Ages of (24-40).  What this allows you to do is target based on not just your keywords but target mega keywords and but still reach your target customer.  This is the kind of targeting that is quite amazing, and usually not possible, even in most Display advertising today.  So why is this targeting important for your search campaign?  Well, you don’t have to buy our marketing book to know the answer.  The better the targeting, the better your message will get through to your prospects and customers, and the more likely you will be able to sell your goods and services.  Now, we are saying likely because at the end of the day your product or service really has to provide value to your customers.

2.  AdCenter and Microsoft has done a great job by providing new access to much more inventory, especially keyword search based inventory through their Content Ads, and Content Network.  This is just like Google, but maybe better because the MSN content network is quite large and only with quality sites.  Instead of the click spam and click fraud that we all often do not advertise on Google Adwords.  This click fraud maybe wrongly blames Google instead of it’s partner content network sites, but it truely is an issue on Advertising on Google Adwords.  I never advertise on Google Adwords content network.

On the other hand, what has plagued adCenter and Microsoft has been the lack of keyword searches and traffic.  I think most of us were fully aware that Google had up to 80% of it’s traffic through the content network.  Now, we can actually advertise on a high quality content network through adCenter.Micrsoft.com.

As some of you know, we have in the past only favored Google for SEO and SEM, but we are starting to change our Tune as Google is simply too expensive.  And, we feel that MSN, Live and Microsoft are bringing forth better and better tools that we need.  Now we are biased towards Microsoft, given the fact that we live in Seattle and so much of our local economy is supported by Microsoft.  But that does not mean, we have not ripped on MS in the past, we are just being focused here on adCenter and it’s effectiveness for Internet Search Advertising.   We have just proved it’s value based on our Heaters campaign and the marketing book campaign.

Quote from Gandhi - Does it apply to Marketing & Innovation

October 23rd, 2008 by admin

It use to be that when you were different people laughed at you, in marketing that is the only way to be.  Especially if you are really different.  The best way to stand out is to be different, and if you can get people to laugh at you then you have won.  Just make sure you have the confidence to take a joke.  Recently SNL has been getting a lot of viewers for their election skits.  Sarah Palin did herself a favor for going on it, and laughing with them.  Because before her presence they were laughing at her, now that she joined them, she was laughing with them.   Trust me, i am being objective, I am strong Obama suppporter.  So to close the loop, if you are marketing something new and or anything, you need to get viewership and if people laugh at you, that is a lot better then if they ignored you.  So go make an impact with your blog!

Here is the quote from Gandhi who inspired my blog of today:

“First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.” Gandhi

Is Microsoft AdCenter Advertising better then Google Adwords, we test with Heaters?

October 22nd, 2008 by admin

It sure can be, especially if cheaper is added to the mix.  This is no major news, if you would have read our marketing book, we mention that MSN Live search and AdCenter.Microsoft is a great way to lower your search marketing expenses.  The key is to make sure you get enough traffic, and certainly the 3rd biggest search engine has enough traffic for most keywords, and yet just as many targeted search based clicks.   We just proved this, as we started to advertise on it for our heaters from GreenIsBetter.org.  The average cost for per click is less than 10times cheaper, and we are getting enough traffic.  We don’t advertise on Google, as simply said we can’t afford to.  We simply have been focused on SEO for google, but Pay Per click on MSN makes sense for us.  Forgive the shameless self promotion “The family has got to eat with heaters this winter”:-)

We get asked this question of why our Infrared Heater is one of the best heaters for energy saving and considered better then Edenpure brands?  Well you decide, we think that the Edepure brand is a powerful advertising and innovation business, but here are our infrared heater facts:

Why our Infrared Heaters are better than a Eden Pure Heater?

You decide!

Posted by: Admin in Infrared Heaters

Do own a Infrared space heaters? Why Not?  Have you learned about the Infrared Heater technology yet, or seen one of their ads on radio or the news papers?  Yes those ads are for the EdenPure Infrared Heaters, not our ComfortZone Quartz Infrared heater but, our product is made at the same manufacturing plant that theirs was built last year.  But ours actually has a few other features that their’s does not.  Do you know about Microsoft?  Some say, they don’t invent anything, they just make things better.  That is what I feel about our better than eden pure heaters.  Our Infrared heater, has a digital thermostat screen, you can adjust the heat by one degree in stead of three degrees, you can change the light bulb, in case it goes out, instead of replacing the whole unit.  Our Infrared Heaters is also one of the best looking units as far as a heaters any way:-).

Now you won’t ask why it’s better than EdenPure Heater?  Will you.  yes, there are some more reasons from a previous post, CZ Infrared Heater is better than EdenPure Heaters because:

1. It has a digital screen for you to see the temperature you are setting to. Hello isn’t a thermostat or knowing your temperature setting the most important thing in a Infrared heater? Well yes, that is a rhetoric question I asked.

2. It is a more energy saving heater than eden pure as you can adjust by 1 degree instead of 2 or three, saves more energy.  That is the most important reason you buy our Infrared heaters, isn’t it, to save money and energy.

3. The darker wood panel makes it more attractive, matches your higher quality look and feel. Your Infrared Heater should not get in the way of your homes esthetics, should it?

4. It has replacement parts for better maintenance, you don’t have to replace the whole unit or get it serviced if your light bulbs are gone bad, believe it or not we don’t want you to replace the whole unit.  Wow, in the worst case it will save you more hassle than an EdenPure heater.  Wow!

5. Our technology is more advanced as we patented the process and our founder Bruce is a genius, he actually use to sell Eden Pure heaters.

**Oh yeah we hear that Infrared Heater is therapeutic, but Eden Pure heaters put out that same great heat so that is not a good enough reason to place above.  We do want to thank the Edenpure folks for promoting the Infrared Heater concept though.

Need more reasons? Well we are from the Pacific Northwest, Seattle and Yelm Washington. Our part of the country is known for it’s environmental concern and quality of life. Our state of Washington is known as the Evergreen state, so it’s no wonder that we are concerned about the environment and working on making our Infrared Heaters much better than Eden pure heater brand.  We care about the environment too, so won’t you help us by buying a unit or two and promoting our cause.  There are just too many skeptics when the new technology comes in first.

Our main website for Infrared Heater and other products that are better than eden pure heaters is being designed at GreenIsBetter.org. So there you have it, buy a better than Edenpure Infrared heater from us, because they truly are better than that other brand!

Thanks folks!  Full disclosure here, we are from ComfortZone Infrared Heater so we are biased, but we are trying our best to be fair and let you speak your comments!

Lazy Marketing Execs Not Blogging frequently enough

October 21st, 2008 by admin

Ok, I have not blogged for almost a week and I feel lazy. I do have a full time job, I help with my previous ventures part time, and I am raising 2 kids. All of this can take a toll on a physical body, mine. So I have been working out more then any time in the last 5 years, but still not as much as before.  And, I still find time for blogging? Why am I writing about marketing execs with popular blogs not blogging enough? Because these execs have no excuses, especially as resources such as proof readers, editors etc? I mean these people do have a job called Marketing, don’t they? They are all essentially in the marketing business, shouldn’t they be blogging?

I went to two blogs of marketing execs of Internet Advertising & Internet Marketing agencies in the last few minutes. And, both of them had not updated their blogs since July, C’mon. Now do you actually expect me to think of you as a credible resource? I won’t, and nor will your readers. Maybe they should be reading my blogging and marketing book?

So here are some important marketing tips if you are in marketing and in business promotion:

1. Blog at least once a week, once a month is going to keep you at least in the game.

2. Setup a professional blog on your domain, Wordpress or Blogger, they have all the tools to promote you.

3. Be an expert by focusing your blog on something niche and specific.

4. Ad your personal views, always keep things a bit light, people aren’t reading a scientific journal. They want your opinion and want to read what you think.

5. Don’t write for more then 3-4 paragraphs, seriously!

I will end with #5 as I am reminded of a beautiful blog by a food writer. She wrote for pages and pages, and kept on going. I, along with lots of people now days, don’t have a lot of time.  Blogs are suppose to be short, so keep them short, be clear, specific and make them personable. A photo or two won’t hurt either. If you want more blogging tips, don’t be afraid to read our Blogging category and or buy our book on Amazon. Best Wishes!

**As always this free blog is sponsored by our Green heaters @ GreenIsBetter.org, which sells the best Infrared Heater on the market.

Nobel Prize for economics winner’s article on current crisis

October 14th, 2008 by admin

So I claim to know what is going on the recent economic crisis, but that doesn’t mean I know how to fix anything, nor do I have any influence on people who do.  But this guy Krugman sure does, I have been watching him for a few months on TV, but I had no idea he was so powerful.  He is even more powerful, now that he won the Nobel Prize for economics this week.  Here are some of his thoughts about the most recent rescue plan, there is a link to the full article below too:

Krugman: Revised Rescue Plan ‘Looks Much Better’

Topics:Interest Rates | Inflation | Ben Bernanke | Employment | Consumers | Federal Reserve | Federal Budget (U.S.) | Economy (Global) | Economy (U.S.)

Paul Krugman, Princeton University professor, New York Times op-ed columnist and winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize for Economics, had been very critical of Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson’s original bailout plan, saying it was distorted by ideology.

Today, however, Krugman told CNBC he thinks the new plan, which will inject $250 billion into U.S. banks, “looks much better.”

“In the last six days this thing has come together with a plan that really does address the critical problem of inadequate capital at the banks (and) addresses the need for guarantees to calm the markets down,” said Krugman. “We don’t know this is going to work, I wish we were sure, but this is a much better. For the first time I’m starting to feel that policy is really getting some traction on the crisis.”

Krugman said the current financial crisis repudiates the financial-markets-are-always right principle.

“A certain amount of public intervention, oversight and—in crisis—partial takeover of the financial system is something you have to do,” he said. “Leaving the financial system to work things out on its own was disastrous in the 1930s and brought us to the brink of disaster again now.”

“This is not a case for socialism, it’s a case for regulation, oversight and for government-led rescues when there’s an emergency,” he added. “We’re not going to go back to Karl Marx, but we are going to rediscover some of the things Franklin Roosevelt learned 75 years ago.”

Are you scared of Obama being President?

October 9th, 2008 by admin

I am not scared at all, and a recent post from a young woman in my friends Facebook wall showed that she was.  She is a smart young tech savvy person.  But, she probably has fears that the right wing conservatives have pushed on.  Here is my response to why I want and believe, like most Americans that Obama will be a great President.  If you want a rebuttal folks, please do comment on this blog

Lots of people are scared of foolish things:-). No great President ever did anything major before they got in the office. JFK, Abe Lincoln, FDR, Clinton all did great things while in office. Does Obama have the Intelligence, proven oratory skills, ability to manage a very strategic campaign, ability to be tech savvy, ability to surround him self with great leaders, ability to not be foolish and make any major blunders?

Who is calm and cool under pressure? We want a leader, not a guy who left his wife after her accident. We don’t want a guy who was last in his class at the Naval Academy, we want a guy who was the leader of the Harvard Law Review, a guy who is super smart and humble and inspires us.

Fear based politics does not work. People want positive solutions, look at all the polls, who is leading and why? America is the best country in the world, because we give people a chance to succeed, no matter what their background, sex or race. Hillary supporters for Obama!
