How to Find your Niche
Whether you call it finding your niche, creating your personal brand, promoting your area of expertise, but the key to successful blogging is carving out your own space on the internet and using it to promote your message and yourself.ÂÂÂ
So how do you do that? Think about your business and what skills and services you have to promote, and narrow that down to a few specific concepts. It’s crucial that you’re clear, focused, and emphasize your unique qualities - there are a lot of blogs and businesses out there, so you want to make sure people come back to yours (I’ll be discussing blog “stickiness” in many later posts).ÂÂÂ
Posting a short bio on your blog’s About page is a good way to organize. Pretend you’re being interviewed or profiled by a magazine - tell your readers how you got into your current field, a little about your background, and some of your favorite things. If you’re having trouble, get a friend or family member to interview you and post it as a Q&A.
There’s no need for flowery prose or clever writing gimmicks- we’re not penning a novel here. Simple, clear, and direct should be your mantra as you create your own compelling content.
